Shadows of the Adriatic
My tale begins in 1890 with an accidental meeting of our two masked and costumed protagonists on the lacemaking island of Burano, Italy during the Belle Epoque. Giacinta, a minor noblewoman and lacemaker, dreams of adventure beyond the confines of her provincial life. When she meets Enrico, a Sicilian fisherman with a dark past, their worlds collide in a tale of love, betrayal, and redemption. Fleeing from Sicily after a deadly confrontation, Enrico starts a new life in the Venetian lagoon, but his past catches up with him, threatening to tear apart everything he holds dear, including his new inamorata, Giacinta.
Can they escape the shadows of their past and forge a new future together, or will the sins of yesterday destroy their chance at happiness?
My historical romance short story is my contribution to the book,
